Spring 2012

Del Zorro News – Spring 2012Hola amigos! 2011 was an exciting year in Zorroland and I’m happy to share some exciting 2012 developments with you.  First off, I’d like extend my deep appreciation and sincere thanks to everyone who has supported me, particularly to those who have bought or downloaded my debut record “Uno” at live shows, from iTunes and atCD Baby.  You can always find an up-to-date performance calendar, photos and more information about me and my music atdelzorro.com.

Custom Guitar Picks by Steve Clayton, Inc.The CD release party at White Rabbit brought together some old and new friends and generated some very positive feedback from fans and industry people alike.  Last March I signed an endorsement agreement with Steve Clayton, Inc., manufacturer of the finest guitar picks available, and later that month I acquired my newest instrument, a Martin LXM Tres, directly from its designer and Artist Relations Manager Dick Boak at the Martin Guitar Factory in Nazareth, PA.  I also got to tour the plant and visit the guitar museum, both of which were fascinating – I highly recommend the public tour to anyone in the area.

As many of you already know, I’ve named my new band “del Zorro” after my record label and music publishing company, del Zorro Records (zorro, of course, means “fox” in Spanish). Many of you have graciously come out to see del Zorro perform at Havana Central‘s Times Square and West End locations, and you can catch the band at the new restaurant in Yonkers starting later this month.

In January 2012 I was proud to play
alongside esteemed colleagues David Oquendo and Dave Sandoval at Guateke Cubano, a concert organized and hosted by Cuban guitarist and filmmaker Roberto Poveda at 92Y Tribeca. I’ve posted videos of my performance, which featured the multi-talented Manuel Alejandro Carro on cajon, on my YouTube channel (with many thanks to Dave Sandoval for the use of his camera).  It was a great night of music and a privilege to play with such fine musicians for an enthusiastic crowd.  Last month, I signed a licensing agreement with LoveCat Music to use my song “Pobre Corazon” (a re-titled version of the bolero-rock song “Se Oculta El Sol”) in an upcoming episode of the popular drama “Damages,” starring Glenn Close and Ted Danson, on FX.  What a way to start the year!

Thanks again for your interest in what I do and for supporting independent music.  I’ve posted performance dates through May on my calendar at delzorro.com.  Hope to see you soon!
