Once upon a time a friend of mine was having a particularly rough depressive episode and asked me to come over to talk. As I walked into her apartment I was struck by the contrast between the gloominess of the room and the beautiful sunny weather streaming in through the window. I was thinking about that episode late one night while looking out my own window and wrote this compact tune after writing down some of the things I saw on the street below. It happens to all of us sometimes that not even a picture-perfect day is enough to lighten our darkling spirits, and I guess that’s what this song is about.
I see a lightness unfolding Doors that are opening The brightening sky I see the snow coming down again The faces of elderly men The creeping daylight You just sit alone in your four-walled room and hide Barrel down the door but there's no one left inside And you can't stop your crying Can't keep the loneliness away And when I look out your window It's just another sunny day Well you can't stop your crying Can't keep the loneliness at bay And when I look out your window It's just another sunny day
